Cape Town - A man and a woman were arrested in Cape Town early on Saturday for allegedly being in possession of drugs estimated to be worth almost R2 million, Western Cape police said.

Police followed up information at about 1.50am about a large amount of drugs in a vehicle in Gugulethu, Cape Town, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement.

A Toyota Fortuner was found at the address in Gugulethu and a police sniffer dog responded positively, indicating that drugs were underneath the back seat of the vehicle.

“Mandrax, cocaine, and rocks with [an] estimated street value of R1.9 million were confiscated.”

Two suspects, a 50-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, were arrested and faced possession of drugs charges.

Both suspects were expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court once they had been charged, Rwexana said.
