Christiana, North West -

Assets worth R4 million will be forfeited to the state on Thursday by a man accused of fraud in Christiana, in the North West, police said.

An order to attach the assets of Pieter Willem Van Heerden was issued by the High Court in Pretoria on July 25, said Colonel Emelda Setlhako.

He said Van Heerden, 28, who was accused of fraud, was arrested on May 29 and was granted bail of R20,000. The Christiana Magistrate's Court postponed the case until August 28.

Setlhako said Van Heerden was accused of convincing farmers to pay in advance for fertiliser orders which they did not receive, and of giving those who complained cheques which bounced. - Sapa
