A Manenberg oupa accused of raping and impregnating his own teenage granddaughter was sent back to the mang on Thursday pending a DNA report.
The 63-year-old man, who cannot be named in order to protect the victim, has spent six months in Pollsmoor Prison already after he was busted in April.
During his arrest, it was revealed that the man who works as a security guard had been raping the 14-year-old girl in his home.
The shocking discovery was made by her 37-year-old mother who realised that the girl had not menstruated and took her to a local clinic for a pregnancy test.
After she tested positive, police were called in and the oupa later arrested.
He made a brief appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where the case was postponed to 4 November for him to appoint an attorney.
Speaking to the Daily Voice, the teen’s mom says she is on the road to recovery after she opted for an abortion.
“As a family, we decided to go for the abortion as she did not want to raise a child fathered by her own oupa,” she says.
“We spoke to the detectives about this and she was taken to Mitchells Plain District Hospital where they performed the abortion and told us that DNA tests will now be conducted on the foetus and a report compiled and it will go in his file at court.
“She is doing much better now and we hope the report will be finalised soon so the evidence is before the court.”
