Cape Town - Six people, four men and two women, have been arrested for allegedly murdering a man in Pacaltsdorp, George, Western Cape police said.

The six were arrested on Friday following the disappearance of Cornelius Jansen in Pacaltsdorp in January, Captain Malcolm Pojie said.

The six were between the ages of 20 and 52.

“These arrests followed laboratory results which indicated that skeleton remains that was found on the premises of his residents is that of a human,” Pojie said.

“Subsequently the detectives followed up leads and obtained statements that support suspicion that the missing Cornelius Jansen most (probably) never left town as initially reported.”

It was believed Jansen left his residence at Petunia Street, Pacaltsdorp, for Mossel Bay at about 11pm on January 16.

A search ensued which was unsuccessful.

On Wednesday, January 28, police responded to a report of a fire at Jansen's premises.

“Subsequently bones and substance believed to be blood was found among the debris,” Pojie said.

“These were confiscated by forensic experts and sent to our forensic laboratory for analysis. The results (have) now been received and confirmed that the remains that was found is that of a human.”

DNA tests would be conducted to ascertain the origin and possible identity of the remains.
