Bafokeng king dies after heart attack
Bafokeng king Kgosi Lebone Molotlegi II died of a heart attack on Wednesday, the Bafokeng royal family announced.
Molotlegi was 35 years old.
Kgosi Lebone Mollwane Boikanyo Molotlegi was to have been enthroned in September this year after succeeding his father, Lebone I who died in 1995.
The family said in a statement Molotlegi fell ill during a holiday in New York in February, forcing him to cut short his visit, and was admitted to hospital on his return home.
On March 5 he was admitted to Morningside Clinic.
"He required intensive care therapy including prolonged intensive care support but despite that, Kgosi Lebone Molotlegi suffered a cardiac arrest which led to his demise on Wednesday 29th March 2000," the statement said.
Kgosi Molotlegi II was the 35th recorded Bafokeng king and the 15th direct descendant in a long line of Bafokeng kings.
He leaves his mother, two brothers and two sisters. As he was unmarried, traditionally the next in line will be his brother, Leruo.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later this week. - Sapa
