A 32-year-old Zimbabwean woman gave birth to a daughter at a police station in Pretoria West on Friday morning, Gauteng police said.
Captain Dumisani Ezekiel said the pregnant woman came into the police station complaining about birth pains.
"While the police were trying to get an ambulance for her, she gave birth," he said.
Mother and child were staying in the Kalafong hospital and were doing well, he said.
The baby was named Montlhe, after the female police officer that assisted in the delivery.
The baby was born on February 29, but her birthday was registered as February 28 because of the leap-year, Ezekiel said. - Sapa
