The Daily Voice team was seconds away from a shooting which nearly claimed the lives of two people.

A mere 300 metres from where our team was interviewing Gugulethu residents, gunmen opened fire on a passing VW microbus.

Within seconds, the car was riddled with bullets but miraculously the two people inside escaped unharmed. They then ran away from the cops.

Kids playing nearby were also lucky to escape with their lives.

Witnesses say they saw men inside a white Golf firing at the microbus at around 1.15pm.

A resident who is too scared to be named says she saw the white car passing.

"At first I thought they were just throwing crackers," she says.

"But when they sped off, I saw men firing at the kombi (microbus).

"It was like a movie scene, the men just kept on shooting.

"I ran for cover to the nearby houses."

Another resident says he was smoking a cigarette when he heard the shots and saw the microbus passengers flee.

"I was talking to a friend when I heard some shots and minutes later two men came out of the Microbus and ran on foot between the houses," he says.

The witness says he couldn't believe it when the two microbus passengers then snuck back to the shooting scene and tried to push the van away. "But they ran away when the police arrived," he says.

Gugulethu police spokesperson Elliot Sinyangana says they are investigating the matter and are still formulating the charges. - Daily Voice
