Johannesburg - DJ Sbu has landed himself in more trouble.

The entrepreneur and creator of MoFaya Energy Drink was the source of a viral frenzy around Mpho Mokoena on Tuesday, a day before the matric results were released.

The controversial figure tweeted: “Mpho Mokoena 100 percent in everything. Seven distinctions. We visited his home to deliver his bursary.”

Along with the tweet, he posted a short video of Mpho, who thanked DJ Sbu for the bursary.

The video went viral and many congratulated the “genius” for getting 100 percent in everything, with his name trending on social media platforms.

Even the government’s Twitter account picked up on it and wrote: “Congratulations to #MphoMokoena of Alafang Secondary School in Katlehong for scoring 100 percent in all his subjects. #Classof2015”

It soon emerged that Mpho hadn’t received the marks DJ Sbu had quoted in his tweet and that he had actually matriculated in 2014.

Mpho told the Mail & Guardian that he'd received nasty messages from people saying he had lied.

“At first I was intrigued, but I’m generally a very private person, so while it was fun for a while, it has now become scary for me because people have been messaging me, accusing me of wanting attention, which is not the case,” he said.

This angered many on Twitter who felt that DJ Sbu had once again tried to garner attention for himself by misleading the masses.

He did this previously when he tweeted a fake Forbes Africa cover that had his picture on it.

Many felt that he had used Mpho.

@YoliYoli_ wrote: “DJ Sbu is so annoying because every time that guy looks for a job, HR will Google him and read that story. So unnecessary.”

Mpho had in fact received high marks, between 82 and 98 percent.

Because of the attention, he fears leaving his home.

“It’s very stressful. I’m not trying to divert attention away from recent matric achievers as some have been claiming.”

Some of the tweets went:

@FFoxzul: Starting to believe when DJ SBU was mzekezeke he wasn’t acting, he’s a schizophrenic who needs helps asap #mofaya.

@EsethuHasane: DJ Sbu got 100 percent in Maths. Round Off to the nearest hundreds part of the question paper.

@__Yandisa: Guys, I Don’t think DJ Sbu is well in the head.

@JimmyRamokgopa: DJ Sbu lies so much you might find that his energy drink is nothing but Oros and Twizza mixed together.

@2le_Fuze: DJ Sbu needs cleansing. I’ll buy impepho. Who’s contributing towards imbuzi? Who’s making goat stew? Who’s making umqombothi?

@RabothataM: His Excellency-MSR retweeted South African gov. Funny thing is, he managed to mislead even the government!!! Lol DJ Sbu.

@NomalangaSA: DJ Sbu. Exploiting the messiness that comes with social media. We will only learn over time.

@RefilweI: I will never support DJ Sbu! This last stunt is just shameful. Some of you are drinking his energy drink kanti ke Drink-O-Pop. #DjSbu.

@NomfundoNgcobo: DJ Sbu is so damn slick. He really re-released Mpho’s results from 2014 to create hype around him. Yessus, can’t hate his hustle.
