Gauteng police sniffer dogs put their money where their noses are during an anti-drugs operation at the weekend, when they tracked down some narcotics - and a lot of dog food.

About 150 police dog handlers from various units and their faithful hounds flooded Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, on Friday in search of drug dealers and their illicit wares.

The dog-and-handler pairs, split into five teams, raided several houses in the Lenasia area during the all-night, intelligence-driven operation.

According to Superintendent Richard Luvhengo, the police dogs' keen nose-power led to the discovery of various drugs - and at one of the raided houses, 330 bags of suspected stolen dog food were found. In addition, R8 000 believed to be the proceeds of drug sales was confiscated from various people.
