King William's Town - South African Police Service (SAPS) officers in Centane have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday morning, Eastern Cape police said.

"It is alleged that local boys were enjoying themselves at Midange locality, Qombolo village, Centane," Captain Jackson Manatha said in a statement.

"A misunderstanding allegedly ensued between the suspect, aged 17, and the 21-year-old boy on Saturday 6 October 2018 at about [5am]. It is then alleged that the suspect drew his knife and fatally stabbed the 21-year-old man. He died at the scene. The occasion that was hosted by these boys is not yet clear at this point in time."

Once the murder was reported, Centane police acted swiftly and rushed to the scene. The teenager was traced and arrested. He had then been handed over to his parents who were warned to bring him to the Centane Magistrate's Court on Monday, Manatha said.
