Five hurt in Shosholoza Meyl crash
East London - Five people have reportedly been injured after a Shosholoza Meyl passenger train collided with a Transnet goods train near Hanover in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) spokesperson, Mthura Swartz, confirmed that a Shosholoza Meyl passenger train travelling from East London collided head-on with a Transnet goods train near Hanover outside King William’s Town.
“The Prasa and Transnet teams have just arrived to do investigation on what has taken place. I cannot say much because this is a Transnet (rail) network,” Swartz explained.
Swartz said Prasa was in the process of communicating with Transnet about the facts surrounding the train collision.
“We are currently in talks and cannot blame anyone as yet because we do not have sufficient information,” he said.
