Port Elizabeth - Four people were killed and 11 others injured in a head-on collision on the R72 between Gulu and Kidds Beach near East London on Tuesday evening.

Eastern Cape traffic spokesperson Charles Bramwell said it was believed that a Nissan LDV long wheel base and an Isuzu double cab were both involved in the fatal crash. Bramwell said the Isuzu was travelling in the direction of Port Elizabeth while the Nissan was traveling in the direction of Kidds Beach near East London.

Bramwell said the the driver of the Isuzu overtook two vehicles, in the face of oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with the Nissan.

Following the collision, Bramwell said the Isuzu landed 15 metres down an embankment. Four men died as a result of the crash, including both drivers.

Six people were critically injured, while five others sustained slight injuries.
