Port Elizabeth - Police in the Eastern Cape are probing the murder of an African National Congress (ANC) member from Port Elizabeth in what is a suspected hit.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naid, said Mandisi Thando Xakaxa, 41, drove into his yard in Zwide after returning from a prayer meeting on Wednesday at around 20:30pm.

"His family, who was inside the house, heard a gunshot. When his father came out, he saw Xakaxa slumped in his car," said Naidu.

Xakaxa sustained a bullet wound to his head.
