King William's Town - Willowvale police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a 76-year-old woman, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
The alleged rape took place at about 7pm on Friday night at Bikane village, Willowvale, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
"The victim was alone when she was accosted and allegedly raped by the suspect. The suspect fled after the alleged rape. The victim alerted community members who chased the suspect and caught him."
Police were called and they arrested the man. He had been charged with rape and would appear in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday, Manatha said.
Butterworth policing cluster commander Brigadier Trevor Mey thanked the community for their assistance in apprehending the suspect and not taking the law into their own hands.
