King William's Town - Butterworth police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man to death at traditional ceremony, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

The two apparently attended a traditional ceremony at Lower Mpenduza village at Butterworth on Saturday, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

"The two had a misunderstanding which resulted to the suspect fatally stabbing the deceased. The deceased was stabbed on his upper body."

The murder was committed at about 5:30pm on Saturday. The stabbed man died instantly. Police were informed of the murder and arrested the suspect, who had since been charged with murder. He would appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Manatha said Butterworth policing cluster police had urged communities to report their ceremonies so that police could patrol those ceremonies to prevent crime.
