Port Elizabeth cops swoop on suspect after shooting

Port Elizabeth – Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 21-year old man on charges of attempted murder following a shooting in the city's Northern Areas.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said a 20-year-old man was standing with a friend at the corner of Durban street when shots were fired at them on Thursday night. The 20-year-old was wounded in his right upper leg.

"While the Provincial Gang Investigation Team were busy with the crime scene, they received information of the possible suspect. As police entered Highfield Road, they noticed a group of men running," said Naidu.

The 21-year-old suspect was apprehended and a silver Browning pistol was confiscated.

He faces charges attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court next week.
