Port Elizabeth - Police in the Eastern Cape are investigating a case of murder after the body of an 8-year-old boy was found dumped in the bushes near a dam on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, said the body was found at Extension 6 in Malabar by school children who reported the discovery to the police.

The child was identified by his brother as Jamaine Jonathan.

The boy sustained open wounds to his head, police said.

Labans said that a 16-year-old teenager had since handed himself over to police: "It is alleged that the boy was in the company of the suspect and other people yesterday [Sunday] afternoon. [The] motive for the killing is unknown at this stage," said Labans.
