Cape Town - Just days before Oscar Pistorius’s murder trial is due to start, Reeva Steenkamp’s father has suffered his second stroke, a report says.

According to TimesLive, the family's lawyer, Dup de Bruyn, confirmed on Thursday that Barry Steenkamp had had a stroke earlier this week.

“It was light. He has recovered reasonably well, but it is a traumatic time. He simply cannot see his way forward to come to the trial,” De Bruyn was quoted as saying.

Steenkamp suffered a first stroke at the end of last month.

Pistorius is due to stand trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday. He is accused of murdering Reeva, his girlfriend, on February 14 last year.

According to TImesLive, Barry Steenkamp will recover at home in Port Elizabeth, while his wife, June, will fly to Johannesburg on Friday to attend the start of Pistorius’s three-week trial. - IOL
