Port Elizabeth - A Port Elizabeth cop was close to tears in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Tuesday, as he gave a harrowing account of a bloody scene where 12-year-old Aliya 'Angel' Tee was allegedly gunned down in cold blood by two known gangsters in June last year.
Nealon Redhouse, 18, and Deon Harmse, 24, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, housebreaking with intent to commit murder and unlicensed possession of firearm and ammunition.
Their trial got underway on Tuesday.
Constable Quinton Gould was the first respondent to the crime scene at 235 Barberry Drive in Bethelsdorp where the alleged murder took place.
Noted in the indictment Redhouse's home is situated next door to the Tee family home in the city's northern areas.
Gould testified when he arrived at the scene he saw Tee's mother Candice, who was walking towards him in the yard crying and screaming hysterically.
Gould and Candice then moved to the back door of the house where her husband Edmund was laying wounded.
"When I wanted to open the door it was difficult. Mr Tee was laying behind the door. I could see that he was wounded. I tried to talk to him and he continuously said he was in pain and wanted to know where his daughter was," Gould said.
Gould testified while speaking to Edmund the father informed him that "Nealon and Kwas" were the alleged shooters.
Gould said that working in the area for quite sometime he believed the pair belonged to the Spotbouer Gang.
According to his testimony Candice took the cop to the bathroom where Angel was laying in a pool of blood.
"When I saw [Angel] I told Mrs Tee to sit in the dining room. I tried to calm her she was hysterical," he said.
The cop testified that the mother was hysterical and shivering the entire time he was attending to the scene.
He became emotional during testimony adding that it was a traumatic experience.
"It was very traumatic seeing a young girl in a pool of blood. It was difficult to continue working."
According to the State, Angel was killed on June 7 last year, when gunmen posing as cops forced down the back door of the Barberry Drive home in Bethelsdorp.
She was a Grade 7 pupil and prefect at Strelitzia Primary School.
The State alleges her father, was shot and incapacitated while trying to fend off the attackers. According to the prosecution after the men shot him they proceeded to look for other family members in the home.
Tee and her mother, Candice, were in the bathroom when they were discovered by the gunmen.
Angel's parents have since been placed in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) witness protection programme.
The State contends the promising schoolgirl was shot in the head and died at the scene.
The trial continues.
