Six people were killed In a taxi accident on the N2 outside Port Elizabeth on Sunday, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 believed the taxi collided with a pole about 30 kilometres south of Port Elizabeth around 5am.
Spokesman Chris Botha said paramedics found debris scattered over a large area, with some of the injured people still trapped in the wreckage.
Paramedics found that six people had died, three sustained critical injuries while eight were seriously injured, Botha said.
The injured were stabilised at the scene and taken to various hospitals for further medical attention.
Botha said the cause of the accident was unknown and the incident was handed to the police for investigation.
