Cape Town - While some provinces have been battling drought, there may be some unexpected snowfall in the South Western Cape this weekend.

South Western Cape residents can expect a sharp decline in temperature and the possibility of rainfall, with a cold front arriving late on Friday, according to Snow Report South Africa.

“Friday night could see the freezing level drop down to 2 000m, and this, accompanied by some moisture, means snow! At this stage, it looks like light snow will fall late on Friday night on the extreme high ground around Ceres, and over the extreme high ground of the Cederberg,” Snow Report South Africa said.

“By Saturday morning the front will move rapidly east, and light snow might be experienced on a number of the extreme high peaks across the WC and into the EC. The EC could experience snowfalls right through to Saturday afternoon, at which point, most of the moisture will be pushed out to sea, and further snow falls are unlikely.”
