Port Elizabeth - Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman from Lesotho with tik valued at R250 000 hidden in juice cartons and biscuit boxes in her handbag, a spokesman said on Thursday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Lloyd Ramovha, said the woman was arrested on Wednesday when a City to City bus from Johannesburg to George was stopped and searched near Sedgefield, in a joint operation by members of the Hawks’ Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence Counter Narcotics (CICN).
"About one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as tik, valued at approximately R250 000, was found concealed in juice and biscuits boxes in the suspect’s handbag," said Ramovha.
Meanwhile, in a separate search and seizure operation on Monday, a 28-year-old Nigerian national was arrested at a taxi rank in George.
Ramovha said that tik with a street value of R2 100 was seized. The suspects are expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of drug dealing.
