RUSTENBURG - Two municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said on Tuesday.

The by-elections on Wednesday would be contested by nine candidates from seven political parties.  Ward 29 in the Mbhashe Municipality would be contested by Philile Mayiji of the African National Congress (ANC), Kholiwe Dyomfana of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Nomandla Tshandana of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) and Nothando Manqata of the United Democratic Movement (UDM).

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Ward 3 in Walter Sisulu Municipality would be contested by Sivuyile Mnikina of the ANC, Khanyisa Sidney September of the African Transformation Movement, Matthee De Ridder Nel of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Bongile David Xamlashe of the EFF and Tshepiso Enerst Nodwele of the Maletswai Civic Association. 

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
