Bloemfontein - Dozens of people were left injured after a bus crashed into a ditch in Bloemfontein, paramedics said on Wednesday. 

The incident happened on Thursday morning on the N8 near the airport. 

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 7am to find the bus on the side of the road. 

"The passengers had already climbed out of the vehicle and were found walking around on the scene.

"Paramedics assessed the patients and found that 27 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene."

Meiring said that paramedics treated the injured patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.

He added that the exact cause of the collision is not yet known but that local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
