Johannesburg - A Free State man, believed to be in his 40s, was killed on Tuesday afternoon, after he was struck by lightning while working on a construction site on a golf course in Parys, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that paramedics arrived on the scene and found that the man had been moved into a nearby home.
"Paramedics assessed the patient and found that he had he showed no signs of life. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead."
Meiring said a second man who had been with the deceased at the time and who was also struck, was assessed and found to have escaped injury.
"It is understood that the men were seeking shelter as they were leaving the construction site when they were struck by the lightning."
