Sasolburg - Six school pupils appeared in court this week for the murder of a 34-year-old man in Zamdela in Sasolburg in the Free State province, police said on Friday.

According to a police statement, the boys stabbed to death the man after pursuing his brother.

"The deceased's brother alleges that on Friday the 16 February 2018 at about 21:00 he was walking home from work when he was chased by a group of unknown males and managed to out run them," police said.

"Seeing that they could not get hold the fleeing brother, suspects turned to a brother who was standing outside, grabbed and dragged him from his yard to the street where he was stabbed to death."

A police sergeant, who was off sick at the time, received information about the suspects.

"He followed up information using his private vehicle and together with the detectives they apprehended the six suspects who are between 18 to 20 years."
