Bethlehem - A 23-year-old man is behind bars after attempting to rape a woman, who fought back and bit off a chunk of his tongue, this past weekend in Reitz near Bethlehem, Free State police said.
The suspect briefly appeared in the Reitz Magistrate's Court on Monday following his arrest just hours after attacking a 38-year-old woman.
"It is alleged that the victim was attacked by an unknown knife-wielding man while entering her home just after one o`clock in Petsana-Reitz. During the struggle, she managed to sink her teeth in the suspect`s tongue," a police statement said.
"The suspect let her go and went to the hospital where he received medical treatment before being placed under arrest, wearing the same clothes which had been described by the victim."
The man will appear in court again on Friday.
