Johannesburg - A man in his 30s was killed and his co-pilot injured when the light aircraft they were flying crashed in Alrode South on Wednesday, Ekurhuleni disaster management services said.

“On arrival, one patient was found outside the wreckage, paramedics from private ambulance treated him. Unfortunately, the second patient was stuck inside the wreckage and was declared dead on scene.”

Emergency services said both men were qualified pilots flying from Panorama airfield near Kliprivier at around noon when their light aircraft crashed.

Aviation authorities and the police were investigating the cause of the accident.
