Johannesburg - Two people were killed and eight others injured when a taxi rolled on the N1 highway in Midrand on Tuesday, the ER24 paramedic service said.
The private ambulance service said when its paramedics arrived on the scene with other emergency services they found the taxi had rolled down an embankment next to the freeway.
"Several people were found lying scattered around the scene. Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the bodies of two women lying near the vehicle. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead," a statement from ER24 said.
"Eight other people were assessed on the scene. All eight people had sustained moderate to serious injuries."
The injured were transported to hospitals in the vicinity of the accident for treatment.
Police were on the scene investigating the accident.
