Cape Town - Nine people were injured when a reported tornado damaged a business and a home in the Delmas and Bapsfontein area on Monday evening, paramedics said.

Severe storms hit most of Gauteng on Monday, causing damage to property and disrupting traffic.

ER24 paramedics responded to an emergency call at a business in Delmas where six people were injured when the building in which the business was located was severely damaged.

The patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment after being stabilised on the scene.

Paramedics were also called to a residence in the Bapsfontein area that had apparently collapsed due to the alleged tornado.

A man and his two children were treated for minor injuries on the scene before being transfered to a nearby hospital.

Local authorities are investigating both incidents.
