Johannesburg - To take his mind off the accident he was involved in, Thomas Ferreira’s parents keep their son busy with fishing trips and other fun activities on the weekend.
Two years ago the 19-year-old from Krugersdorp collided with a blue-light vehicle while on his motorbike.
Ferreira gets frustrated being cooped up at home for most of the week due to his condition after the horrific accident.
”On weekends, whenever possible, we take Thomas out for fishing trips or to the movies or something to get him out of the house. He really enjoys it.”
He said Thomas was making “extremely slow progress”.
“It’s still a long road to go but we are hopeful that one day our son will fully recover from the accident.”
Meanwhile the Ferreira family have been given an interim payout of R870 000 by the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
However Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane said she would honour her promise to ensure that all Ferreira’s expenses were paid.
Ferreira’s lawyers are hoping to settle all his claims from the RAF by next year.
Former Gauteng housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi’s driver, Joseph Semitjie, who knocked down Ferreira will appear at the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
He faces charges of reckless or negligent driving.
