Johannesburg - Evangelist Angus Buchan is scheduled to speak at a religious gathering in Rustenburg, and hoping to involve the miners as well, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

Rustenburg churches were calling the gathering at the Olympia Park stadium next Saturday “New Beginnings”, and stated that its purpose was reconciliation.

Organiser Francois Burger said Marikana residents would definitely be present, and they were working hard to involve miners as well.

The last thing they were hoping to achieve was a “white gathering”, he said, and they wanted to “unite the Rainbow Nation”.

Buchan said he had agreed to speak on condition that there were miners present, as he could preach in English and Zulu.

According to Burger, Rustenburg's mayor had made the 35 000-seater local stadium available to them, and all the churches in the area had agreed to take part.

Forty-six people were killed in Marikana in labour-related violence in August.
