Johannesburg - Nineties Kwaito star Athur Mafokate's attempts to get his assault charge resolved through mediation have proven futile.
Mafokate appeared briefly in the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. He is accused of allegedly physically abusing his ex-girlfriend, musician Cici, whose real name is Busisiwe Twala.
His legal representative asked for a postponement for a possible representation to the Director of Public Prosecutions. This comes after Twala refused mediation.
In June, Mafokate appeared in the same court on a charge of common assault and was released on R500 bail.
According to reports, in June Twala opened a case against Mafokate, whom she called “my boyfriend” in a police statement after he allegedly dragged her in the street with his car during an argument.
The local stars have reportedly laid charges against each other. Mafokate's legal team wants to mediate out of court, but Cici wants the matter handled in court.
Mafokate has denied any wrongdoing.
The matter was postponed to November 3.
