Pretoria - Local property magnate Andrew Shabalala is in the process of buying property in Kleinfontein, an exclusively Afrikaner community.

According to Marisa Haasbroek, volunteer spokeswoman for Kleinfontein, Shabalala knew he was buying into Kleinfontein and did so to “expose” them.

“He knew exactly where he was buying,” said Haasbroek, showing the dilapidated wooden house next to the care facility that Shabalala bid on.

Shabalala, as any other applicant, was not assured that he would meet all the requirements to be allowed to live in the community - he was not an Afrikaner, she said.

The process of buying the shares and the property was not yet complete and the Kleinfontein had board declined to comment.

“The matter is still sub judice and it would be inappropriate to comment,” was her only response.

According to unconfirmed reports, Shabalala wanted to attend the mayor’s visit but was denied entry. Kleinfontein board chairman Jan Groenewald said community security guards did not turn him away.
