Johannesburg - A four-year-old boy died and his baby brother was seriously injured on Sunday when their car hit a pole in Boksburg, on the East Rand, paramedics said.

ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said a Toyota Auris was travelling on Rondebult road towards Boksburg CBD when the accident happened at 10.15am.

“It appears that at Comet street, the children's mother, who was driving, lost control... and she crashed straight into the pole,” she said.

Jackson said 27-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. Her four-year old son died at the scene. His 20-month-old brother broke his leg and was taken to a hospital in Benoni.

“He has since been transferred to the Union Hospital in Alberton, where he remains in a stable but serious condition,” she said.
