Johannesburg - A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to six years imprisonment for the abuse of his six-year old son, Johannesburg police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele said the father was found guilty on Thursday, July 6, and was sentenced to six years imprisonment for child abuse by the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.
Mbele said while police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties in Brixton on October 29 last year when police received information concerning alleged abuse and rushed to 6th Street in Vrede Dorp, Brixton, where they found that the father had assaulted the child with his fist for eating a polony.
According to the police statement, they found the boy bleeding from the nose and mouth.
"The child was taken to hospital while his father was arrested for child abuse," Mbele said.
