Johannesburg - The City of Ekurhuleni on Tuesday warned residents against giving gifts to employees of Waste Management Services, even if they demand a "Christmas Box" when they collect garbage.

Although it was the season of giving, the City warned residents against giving dustmen gifts in monetary or any other form and especially not alcohol, as this could negatively affect the rendering of garbage collection services.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said: “In an unfortunate case where employees harass residents for gifts, residents are urged to get employees’ names or/and vehicle registration number”.

Gadebe said such incidents can be reported directly to the divisional head of waste management operations, Shirleigh Strydom, on 061 432 5378.
