Johannesburg - The Food and Allied Workers’ Union (Fawu) has welcomed the judgment by the Constitutional Court which effectively bans the utilisation of labour brokers to supply workers doing permanent jobs beyond three months.

"As Fawu, we call on all employers to do the right thing and simply convert into permanent employment all those workers who have worked for three months or more already, and those it knows are deployed into permanent positions but are immorally called temporary workers, yet they do permanent jobs," said Fawu general secretary Katishi Masemola

Masemola said the judgment brought to to an end a barbaric practice of slave-trading in human beings and called for primary employers to engage in fair labour practices rather than treat workers as raw materials to be exploited.
