Johannesburg - Five people were arrested in Brixton and Doornfontein, Johannesburg, on Tuesday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, Gauteng police commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba said.

“During the arrest police confiscated a 9mm pistol and three semi-automatic rifles as well as 97 live rounds of ammunition,” he told reporters in Johannesburg.

Mothiba said investigations would focus on their alleged involvement in a robbery in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Saturday, and whether they were linked to ATM bombings, taxi violence, and business robberies.
