Johannesburg - Five people were killed and three others seriously injured in a drag racing crash in Kagiso on the West Rand, the Sowetan reported on Wednesday.

A 78-year-old pedestrian and four young people in a bakkie were killed when the driver lost control of the vehicle on Sebenzisa Street on Tuesday.

The bakkie was apparently racing a car. The bakkie knocked down and killed Nko Motshwane, 78, who was walking to a local cemetery with his daughter. Motshwane was cut in half by the impact.

The second car fled the scene.

“Our children do not listen and these are the results,” said Jaftha Motsumi, the uncle of Thapelo Seloro, one of the young people killed.

“One would have hoped that after the Jub Jub (Molemo Maarohanye) case they would have learnt, but clearly not,” he told the Sowetan.
