Johannesburg - Four men were killed and two others injured in a shooting incident in Ekurhuleni, paramedics said on Thursday.

The incident reportedly happened at around 6.35am on Thursday morning at a veld at the corners of 40th and Barry Marais Road in Dawn Park.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and were lead deep into the veld where one of the patients was found.

"Upon assessment, paramedics found that one man had sustained numerous gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunate, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead.

"A short time later, paramedics were lead further into the held where several other patients were found."

Assessments carried out showed that three men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and Meiring added that nothing could be done for them and they were also declared dead on the scene.

Meiring confirmed that the remaining two were assessed and one was found to be in a critical condition while the second had sustained only moderate injuries.

"Paramedics treated the men and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

"Once treated, the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment."

Meiring said the details surrounding this incident were not yet known but added that local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
