Johannesburg - Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane on Monday condemned the shooting of three police officers at the weekend, which left two of them dead and one wounded.

“The province has been robbed of selfless and dedicated members of the SAPS,” she said in a statement.

“Their passing is not in vain and it would not weaken the morale of our police force, but will instead encourage them to do even more to continue to protect and serve our communities.”

The three officers were shot at while trying to stop a car on the N3 south, near the Modderfontein off-ramp, on Sunday.

One officer died on the scene and a second died later in hospital. A third was in hospital in a critical condition.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza said no arrests had been made.
