Pretoria – Informal traders from Mamelodi came in their numbers to join the march against xenophobic attacks at Burgers Park on Thursday morning.

Under the banner, United Struggle Against Crime, Poverty And Xenophobia, the march is the first in a series of anti-xenophobia events.

The informal traders say foreigners aren't the ones taking their jobs, but it is the government which is not creating enough job opportunities. The march has not been approved by Tshwane Metro Police.

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the proper procedure to obtain permission had not been followed by the organisers.

Representatives from different countries, including Congo, Nigeria and Ethiopia are also part of the march.

They will be handing over a memorandum at the Union Buildings.
