Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Magistrate's Court has sentenced 34-year-old David Khoza to 13 years in jail for kidnapping, stabbing and pouring acid on the face of his ex-girlfriend.

Khoza kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, also the mother of his child, while she was on her way to work in July 2015. He released her the following day and went on the run until police arrested him in November that year.

Khoza was granted bail and on January 1 in 2016, he again went after his ex-girlfriend, stabbing her while she was asleep at her house in Diepkloof Zone 2.

"She screamed for help and suspect was apprehended by the new boyfriend of the victim and the knife was recovered. He managed to escape and run away," said police spokesman, Xoli Mbele.

"While appearing in court for the kidnapping case he was rearrested for assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm on the 18th of January 2016."

The accused had poured acid on to his ex-girlfriend's face.

On the 22nd of June 2016, the accused was arrested once again while he was appearing in court.

"He was denied bail until he was sentenced," said Mbele.
