Johannesburg - Ailing former Springbok captain Joost van der Westhuizen will soon move back in with his ex-wife Amor Vittone and their two children.

In an exclusive interview with heat magazine, Vittone revealed that her previously estranged husband, who suffers from motor neuron disease, will be moving back into their home permanently.

“I’m busy transforming the kids’ playroom into a bedroom for him. Joost can’t get up the stairs anymore, so we want to make it as easy for him as possible.

“Doctors have told us that he will soon need to go on pipes to get oxygen, which means that he won’t move around as often,” she told heat.

Amor also said that as Joost prepared for the worst, he was making sure his family was well looked after.

He has paid off their bond and has even taken them on an overseas holiday.

Vittone says that as a couple they are closer than ever. “He’s such an awesome guy. He really wants the best for me and our children,” she said.

Recently, the BBC reported that the former Springbok was on his deathbed.

But Van der Westhuizen later said the BBC reporter had misinterpreted what he had said during the interview.

“I told them that I am living each day as if it’s my last, which is a cliché but it’s true. I realise that I have a fatal illness, so it’s almost like being on my deathbed.”
