Johannesburg - The Jozi Stars have appealed to cricket fans to bring donations to the Wanderers on Sunday in aid of Alexandra township residents who were affected by a fire on Thursday.

Hundreds of Alexandra residents were left homeless in the aftermath of the blaze.

The Jozi Stars take on the Paarl Rocks in the Mzansi Super League T20 with the match starting at 11am.

“As a consequence of this human tragedy, the Jozi Stars would like to encourage all cricket and sporting fans to assist the victims of this fire, therefore we would like to ask that all spectators drop off donations at the Wanderers Stadium this Sunday, December 9,” the Central Gauteng Lions said in a statement on Friday.

“We would like our fans to please fill up the “Bullring” by donating any non-perishable food items, blankets and clothing. Please drop them off at a counter next to the Bidvest ATM at the Stadium. Your support will be greatly appreciated by all the victims of this fire.

“In line with our appeal, the Jozi Stars will be dedicating this Sunday's game against the Paarl Rocks to the people of Alexandra Township.”
