Johannesburg - A Lenasia Secondary school pupil captured mocking and groping his teacher has been suspended from the school, the Gauteng Department of Education confirmed on Friday.

Footage emerged on social media showing the Grade 10 pupil walk up to his teacher in class while he's assisting another pupil and begin taunting him.

This goes on for a few minutes and at some point, the pupil is seen rubbing the teacher's buttocks, eliciting a strong reaction from the teacher.

The shared video has since sparked outrage on social media, with users calling for action to be taken against the pupil.

The department in a statement confirmed it was aware of the incident and had suspended the pupil from the school.

"The said pupil will appear before the disciplinary process on August 17, 2018.

"MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school on Tuesday, and expressed his displeasure to the school management team. He also interacted with the implicated Grade 10 pupil and accompanied him to the class where the incident took place, to apologise to fellow learners and the educator."

Lesufi also apologised to the teacher behalf of the department and the school.

"The department strongly condemns any form of misconduct in schools and cases reported are prioritised and swiftly dealt with. Pupils are urged to abide by the school code of conduct and desist from any acts of misdemeanor," the department said.
