Johannesburg - An alleged domestic dispute between a woman and her two lovers was at the heart of a shooting incident at an informal settlement outside Carletonville, police said on Tuesday.

On Monday, reports emerged of a shooting incident at the Blyvoor settlement on Sunday night that resulted in the death of a woman and left a man critically injured.

According to paramedics, both the man and woman were discovered with gunshot wounds to their heads.

Carletonville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Masooa has since confirmed that the 30-year-old woman and her lover were allegedly shot by the woman's other boyfriend in a domestic dispute.

"According to a witness, the suspect called the woman to come collect a car... she then took someone along with her for protection.

"When the two arrived, the suspect shot the woman and shot at the woman's companion as he tried to run away from the scene."

The man then ran away, resulting in a manhunt being launched by police.

Masooa said that a case of murder has been opened and appealed for those with more information on the suspect's whereabouts to inform the police.
