Johannesburg - Johannesburg police are searching for an Egyptian national who is on the run with a month-old girl baby.

In a police statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, said 21-year-old Mostafa Makhlouf allegedly kidnapped the child on September 4 at around 4pm.

Mbele said the suspect went to a house in Mayfair and took the child from the mother and went outside the house where "he jumped into gold Peugeot 206 and drove off at high speed".

The man allegedly bumped the child's grandmother who had tried to stop him.
