Johannesburg - Suspended Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head Robert McBride has been charged with misconduct.

This follows an explosive Werksmans Attorneys report recommending that he be criminally charged for allegedly removing evidence implicating former Hawks chief Anwa Dramat.

McBride, who is on suspension, was served with papers setting out the charges against him on Wednesday.

McBride declined to comment.

Police Minister Nathi Nhleko appointed the law firm to investigate discrepancies in two reports involving the illegal rendition of Zimbabwean citizens to their home country.

The report said it had found that evidence implicating Dramat in allegedly carrying out illegal renditions with their Zimbabwean counterparts was deleted from Ipid’s second report.
